Getting a filling done can be scary for children that are scared of the dreaded needle. That’s why we offer a minimally invasive and virtually painless approach with laser dentistry! Our laser is specifically designed to numb the tooth, remove the cavity, and reduce time in the chair while minimizing the risk of trauma after treatment from your child chewing on their lips and cheeks.
What are the benefits of laser dentistry for my child?
Laser treatment is more gentle, easier treatment alternative that helps your child recover faster than use of just traditional dental tools. Thanks to our state-of-the-art laser, we provide faster, simpler, and more precise treatment so your child can avoid having the use of a needle for treatment of cavities that can be restored with small white fillings. As the laser is removing the cavity, it will also numb the tooth. After laser treatment, you won't have to worry about your child injuring themselves by chewing on their numbed tissues as they would with normal anesthesia. Tissue trauma from chewing on their lips and cheeks can cause pain that lasts for weeks as their tissues heal.

The Benefits of Laser Dentistry
Improved Accuracy & Precision
Laser tools use extremely focused, precise beams of light to remove tissue from the teeth, gums, and other areas of the mouth. They're much more precise than traditional tools which allows pinpoint removal of cavities and can help reduce the time needed for dental treatment.
Dramatically Reduced Pain & Sensitivity
The high heat of lasers cauterizes (seals) tissue, blood vessels, and nerve endings on contact. This means that laser treatments greatly desensitize your child's teeth during treatment, making it an easier treatment and recovery for your child.
Faster Healing & Recovery Time
Lasers are more accurate, precise, and less invasive than traditional dental equipment. This allows for simpler, faster, and more comfortable recovery process after your child’s procedure. Your child will have a reduced healing period and be more comfortable every step of the way.
The Laser Dentistry Process
Placing topical Numbing jelly on the gums
We begin by placing a numbing jelly around the gums of the teeth that we are planning on treating. We do this to reduce any sensitivity that can come with the use of the normal instrumentation that will affect the gums along the teeth.
Laser Treatment
After we have numbed the gums and have had the patient relaxed with laughing gas, we begin to use the laser to remove the cavity. The laser uses a lot of water to cool the tooth as it's working and makes a popcorn machine sound as it zaps away the cavity. To make sure your child isn't swallowing all the tooth material we are clearing away, we use an isolation system that drinks up all the water used.
Finishing treatment
After removing the cavity with the laser, we quickly use our normal dental handpieces to shape the tooth opening to best receive the filling material. After this, we place our filling material to restore the tooth. After treatment, the tooth will be desensitized for only a little while longer, allowing your child to eat and drink right away without fear or hurting any numbed tissues that could occur with the normal dental anesthesia injections for fillings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is laser dentistry safe?
Absolutely. Dental lasers are approved by the FDA and are completely safe when used by a trained dentist. Because the laser tool conducts such a precise procedure, there is a smaller chance of bacterial infection. This minimally invasive treatment also causes little to no bleeding for patients if it's needed for gum tissue removal. When undergoing laser treatments, your dentist will take precautions to ensure your child’s safety, just as they would with any other treatment. Since laser tools emit a powerful light, they will give your child special protective glasses or goggles to shield your eyes. Laser dentistry is safer and more comfortable than many other traditional procedures.
Does laser dentistry hurt?
No! Laser treatments are very comfortable and convenient. Plus, in most cases, anesthesia isn’t required! The laser causes a cauterizing effect within the tissue, which numbs the tooth and also seals blood vessels, so there is typically very little sensitivity after treatment. With laser dentistry, your child can quickly get back to their day-to-day routine.
Are laser dental treatments more expensive?
Nope! The dentist would use the laser in conjunction with traditional dental handpieces to complete treatment. It is a great addition to the normal array of tools the dentist uses to fill cavities, that brings no extra cost to the patient. We strive to make your child as comfortable as possible with everything we do.
